puppy dog tails

October 17, 2010. One final sketch for the day- another go at a student portrait. This one I dove into a little too quickly and had to redo some parts. I'm trying to capture how I see the kids, more than going for exact detail. I like there to be somewhat of a cartoon feel if I can manage it to still look like the kids.

I hear you about portraying how you see these kids, your interpretation of their personalities. This is the hardest part, you know. Getting just the likeness is already a major accomplishment, putting a soul into a portrait is a real mastery. This is what I hope to learn to do as I work on my portrait series - it is not easy!

Keep going - they are really great!

These portraits are coming along well Rob, if you don't mind me asking, roughly how long does it take you to do them?

thanks-- I'd say they're between 1.5-2 hours each, give or take. I sketched two yesterday.
